Can You Put a Crock-Pot Insert in the Dishwasher?

Usually yes, check your model

Crock-Pot lists the stoneware and glass lid on many of its models as dishwasher safe, but the heating base never goes in water and older or replacement inserts can be hand wash only. Check the manual for your model.

This is a model-by-model answer. Current Crock-Pot product pages list a dishwasher safe stoneware and glass lid on many slow cookers, and the care section says dishwasher safe parts can be washed in the machine or by hand. The part that is never safe is the base. The other thing to avoid is thermal shock, which cracks stoneware.

How to clean a Crock-Pot

  1. Switch it off, unplug it and let it cool.
  2. Lift out the stoneware and take off the lid.
  3. Put the insert and lid in the dishwasher if your manual says they are dishwasher safe, or wash them in hot soapy water.
  4. Soak stuck-on food in warm soapy water instead of scrubbing with abrasive pads.
  5. Wipe the base with a damp cloth and let everything dry before reassembling.

What happens when you get it wrong

  • Cracked stoneware. Cold water into a hot insert, or a hot insert onto a cold counter, can crack it.
  • Water in the base. The heating element and wiring are not made to get wet.
Use this instead

Hand washing if your manual says the insert is not dishwasher safe, as some replacement inserts are.

Soaking overnight in warm soapy water for baked-on food.
