Insulated cups look alike and the care rules do not. Some can go in the dishwasher whole, some only by the lid, and none of the stainless steel ones go in the microwave. Pick your brand below for the answer straight from the maker guidance.
Rules that hold for every brand
- Stainless steel never goes in the microwave. It reflects microwaves and arcs, whatever the brand or the lid. Here is why.
- Lids are the dishwasher friendly part. Top rack, with any rubber gasket taken out and washed separately.
- Painted and powder coated finishes wear faster in the dishwasher. Hand washing is the gentler choice even where the maker says the dishwasher is allowed.
- Check the base of the cup. A dishwasher safe mark there overrides general advice for that product.
- Dry every part before you reassemble it. Trapped water is where the smell comes from.
