Can You Put KitchenAid Mixer Bowls and Beaters in the Dishwasher?

Bowls yes, check the beater

KitchenAid says its stand mixer bowls are dishwasher safe, except the hammered copper bowl. Coated and stainless steel beaters are too. An uncoated, burnished aluminum beater is not, and the wire whip is hand wash.

What decides it is the finish on your attachments. KitchenAid moved to dishwasher safe beaters in 2018, so a newer coated beater is fine. An older silver burnished aluminum beater oxidizes in the dishwasher and turns dull grey. KitchenAid says that film is harmless and can be removed. Your manual for the exact model is the final word.

How to wash stand mixer attachments

  1. Check the finish. White or coated silver is dishwasher safe, and plain silver burnished aluminum is not.
  2. Put the bowl and coated attachments on the dishwasher, with attachments on the top rack.
  3. Wash burnished aluminum and the wire whip by hand in hot soapy water and dry them straight away.
  4. Wipe the mixer body with a soft damp cloth and avoid household cleaners.
  5. Do not store beaters on the shaft.

What happens when you get it wrong

  • Grey film. A burnished aluminum beater oxidizes in the dishwasher or after a long soak. KitchenAid says the film is harmless and can be removed.
  • A damaged wire whip. KitchenAid says the wire whip is not dishwasher safe, so wash it in hot soapy water.
  • Water in the mixer. The body should be wiped with a damp cloth and never immersed.
Use this instead

Hand washing in hot soapy water, which KitchenAid says works for most attachments.

A coated beater if the plain silver one keeps oxidizing and you want dishwasher convenience.
